The Swannanoa Valley Montessori School currently serves children ages 30 months through 6th grade. The school is located in Black Mountain, NC, about 15 minutes east of Asheville.
In 2007, our school’s Board of Directors determined that in order for us to sustain a viable and thriving elementary Montessori program, it would be in the school’s best interest to move the elementary classrooms to the Asheville area. We then began our search for a suitable location and facilities. After looking at all sorts of options, from renovated buildings to raw land, we have a location, one mile from Interstate 40 at Exit 51–just off Sweeten Creek Road. We found that building a new facility gives us the opportunity to create our own unique learning environment for the children. Along with moving the two elementary classrooms, the plan includes the addition of two other classrooms, which age-groups are yet to be determined. We have preliminary drawings, and will soon begin to finalize those in order to create a beautiful, child-centered, green building with playgrounds, playfield, a resource room, and a multipurpose room.

To create this wonderful campus for SVMS, we began organizing the Capital Campaign in Fall 2009. A consulting firm for non-profit fundraising, Communication Mark, was instrumental in our progress. One of our most heartfelt goals is to have 100% participation from our families. We have been very fortunate to have such giving families with such varied talents. We have formed a Capital Campaign Committee. If you are interested in joining the committee or being a part of the process in any way you can, please contact us.
