SVMS SUMMER CAMPS 2011!
Children ages 3 and up have fun and enjoy a nurturing, non-competitive learning environment during our three one-week sessions of summer fun and enrichment.
Camp Location: SVMS - 130 Center Ave Black Mountain
Session 1 9am – 1pm Cost: $125
Session 2 9am – 1pm Cost: $125
Session 3 10:00am – 12:00pm Cost: $70 + $14 materials
Camps include play time on our playground, equipped for the summer with lots of water games.

Peace Camp (3 – 6 years old)
Through art, song, drama, and movement, we will explore the contributions of some influential peacemakers. We will also gain firsthand experience of creating peace in our own lives through acts of kindness, learning ways to work out problems, and learning self-quieting techniques, such as breathing and using a self-quieting area. Environmental Education Camp (6-12 years old)
Learn about Earth’s ecosystem through exploration, games, and art. Create a backyard wildlife habitat. Experience the beauty and diversity of our mountains. A short trip to a nearby trail is planned. Instructor: Ms. Kara |

Magic Camp (7+ years old)
Wendal Wandell’s Wonder Workshop focuses on the seven principles of magic. Students learn, make, and perform basic magic tricks, culminating in a performance. Instructors: Wendal Wandell (aka Thomas J. Shimeld) |
More about the Instructors:
Ms. Kara has taught young children for years and has been with Swannanoa Valley Montessori for 3 years. She loves being outdoors and is a avid hiker and biker. Children enjoy her energy and warm sense of humor.
Ms. Lucy holds a BA in sociology and has worked in experiential education for children for 10 years. Relocated from Northern Ireland at age 13, she loves exploring cultures and diversity. She is certified in children’s yoga and has taught at SVMS for three years as Assistant Teacher. Lucy will complete her Montessori 3-6 training June 2011.
Ms. Melanie is a seasoned and fully credentialed Montessori teacher. She has taught the Children’s House (3-6 year olds) at Swannanoa Valley Montessori School for 7 years. Children love her for her warmth and relaxed nature.
